Interesting late 18th Century Map of North America, showing the River of the West, one of the last great myths of the North American Continent.
The ma shows a number of interesting Transmississipi West myths and inaccuracies. In addition to the River of the West, Quivira, Teguayo and New Albion are shown, all of which would disappear over the next 10-15 years. A number of Indian Tribes are also shown in the West.
Large Louisiana is shown, just before the Louisiana Purchase. Texas is named. No sign of the Rocky Mountains. Alaska and the Northwest Passage are still largely uncharted.
