Description

Nice example of Russell's map of North America, including a massive unknown Northwestern region, speculative NW Coast of America ( shortly after the voyages of Vancouver & La Perouse).

Unlike earlier editions of the map, this edition includes a reference to "Mr. Lawrence's" overland travels to California in the 1790s. The shape of the massaive lake near modern day Utah and Wyoming has been altered and there are additional annotations in the mountain ranges to the north.

Excellent detail in Texas and the Southwest. The Missions of Upper California are named. Many of the Hudson's Bay and other trading houses west of the Great Lakes are named. Nice detail in the Mississippi and Missouri Valleys, pre-dating Lewis & Clark's explorations of the region.

Condition Description
One faint spot in Pacific. Minor fold split at bottom of map, repaired on verso.
