Description

Highly detailed map which accompanies an 11 report by E.W. Nelson on his Sledge Journey in the Detla of the Yukon, given to the Royal Geographical Society.

E. W. Nelson was stationed from 1877 to 1881 at St. Michael's Redoute n Norton Sound. He made several extended expeditions into the unexplored regions surrounding the station. His field notes were transmitted by Ivan Petroff, special agent for the 10th US Census, via the Smithsonian Institute. It was Petroff's original intention to publish them with the Alaskan Census of 1880, but because of delays, he forwarded them to the Royal Geographical Society for publication.

The report provides a fascinating account of Nelson's experiences on his expeditions, including his contacts fur traders and local villages and his observations on the lands traversed. A fascinating map and account.
