Description

Scarce birdseye view style perspective map of the Yosemite Valley, showing the roads accessible by Automobile shortly after the introduction of Automobiles into the Yosemite Valley.

Very early map by the auto club of Southern California which details the roads and identifies over twenty geographical sites including Bridalveil Falls, El Capitan, the Three Brothers and North Dome. Access to the park is noted from Stockton or Coulterville, via the El Portal Road along the Merced River and also via Big Oak Flat Road.

The primary camps noted sare Lost Arrow Camp, El Capitain Camp, Camp Awhahnee (across the Valley from the current location of the Ahwahnee Hotel, which would not be built for another 10 years. Some of the lesser used names which apepar on the map include Royal Arches, Washington Column, Basket Dome, Leaning Tower, and Old Inspiration Point. Two checking stations are noted, as is the El Capitan Bridge and the Pohono Bridge.

This is the first edition of the map, which would be reissued several times over the next decade.
