Description

Striking chart of the Southern Italian Mediterranean coastline, from Mt. Argentate and Plages Romenes to the south tip of Calabria, north coast of Sicily, east coat of Sardinia and southeast coast of Corsica.

Nice example of this scarce chart, one of 16 charts in Henri Michelot and Laurent Bremond's Carte Generalle dele Mer Mediterranee, which was published along with their work depicting the ports of the Mediterranean, with an English translation in 1725.

The work is exceptionally detailed and also demonstrates the skill of the engraver, Peter Starckmann, who was then one of the most sought after map engravers of the period.
