Description

According to the official report of the USPRR, Fort Owen is situated on the Scattering creek of the Lewis and Clark Trail." The image depicts Lieutenant Mullan arriving at Fort Owen with a delegation of chiefs from the Flathead nation. Taken from the Reports of Explorations and Surveys, to ascertain the most practicable and economical route for a railroad from the Mississippi River to the Pacific Ocean, made under the direction of the Secretary of War, in 1853-4.

Gregson Townsite Situated in Silver Bow County, Mont.

Unique example of the original manuscript plan for the Gregson Townsite in Butte, Montana, as executed by the owners and surveyor Malcolm L. MacDonald in November and December of 1893. The plan would, in turn, be approved by the County Commissioners on January 3, 1894. Unlike the recorded example, the present plan extends further south, showing the major landmark in the area, the Upper Deer Creek Lodge Hot Springs Resort, one of Montana's oldest resorts.
