Description

Rare Lafreri plan of the City of Algiers by Matteo Florimi.

Florimi's works are among the rarest of the Lafreri school map makers. Siena map imprints from this time period are also very rare. This example is a very fine dark impression of the map. All other examples we have observed are from poorer and much later strikes.

The map is also very larger for a Lafreri town plan. It illustrates the town, fortifications, harbor, man made breakwater and other features in and around the city. A key at the bottom identifies 48 points of local interest.

Condition Description
Fine dark impression. Trimmed to neat line, with margins reinstated. Minor restoration at one or two points in neat line, barely touching printed image.
