Important map of the World, being the earliest appearance of Hawaii (O-Why-hee) on a map of the World.
Probst's rare edition of this large format World map is significantly revised and updated from earlier states of the map. In addition to showing Hawaii, it includes a large decorative cartouche and 4 windheads in the corners of the maps, which were not present in Lotter's editions of the map.
The map includes a fine illustration the tracks of Captain Cook on each of his three voyages, as well as excellent depictions of Australia, New Zealand and a very up to date treatment of the NW Coast of America, noting the Spanish, Russian and mythical Chinese (Fou-Sang) discoveries along the Northwest Coast of America.
