Description

Striking pictorial map of California, by the famous pictorial map maker Ruth Taylor, who was active in the 1930 and 1940s. The map consists of a series of vignettes, several of which note the earliest vines planted in California, including Junipero Serra (San Diego 1769) and the Mission San Gabriel (1775). The remainder of the vignettes are a mixture of wine and non-wine themed vignettes, depicting landmarks and activities throughout the state. The wine cask in the lower left includes a list of wine growing regions and the cities in which wine is grown. At the top and bottom are famous quotes about wine, including quotes by Plato, Omar Khayam, Louis Pasteur & Shakespeare, among others. A striking image, promoting the California Wine Industry.
