Decorative map of the United States, surrounded by 16 civil war soldiers in various military poses, along with 2 vignettes of Liberty and Justice, a few of the Capitol Building, 2 inset maps showing the northern and southern military movements in the prime theatres of the Civil War, an inset of map of the area around Fort Barrancas, Fort Pickens and Santa Rosa Island, near Pensacola, etc.
The map itself includes a key showing various railroads (actual and proposed), steamship lines and electric telegraph lines. The map is very rare. While listed in Stephenson and Modelski, both are variants of this edition, which do not include the soldiers. A bit of soiling in the lower left margin and some very minor chipping in the margins, not affecting the printed image. In all, a nice example of this decorative rarity.
