Description

The two-sided promotional publication printed by Hammond in 1972, titled "Famous Aircraft 1903-1919" on one side and "Half Century of Aircraft 1920 to the Present Day" on the other, showcases significant aircraft developments from the early 20th century to modern times. 

This side features notable aircraft from the pioneering era of aviation, starting with the Wright brothers' first powered flight in 1903. It includes various significant models like the Curtiss Pusher, Bleriot XI, and fighter aircraft of World War I, with detailed illustrations and descriptions of each aircraft’s contributions to aviation history. The publication highlights technological advancements and milestones, such as the first transcontinental flight and the first aerial combat engagements. 

The reverse side covers aircraft advancements from 1920 onwards, including iconic planes like the Ford Trimotor, Douglas DC-3, and military aircraft like the P-51 Mustang and the B-17 Flying Fortress. It also showcases the progression to jet engines with aircraft like the Boeing 707 and the supersonic Concorde. The image includdes a total of twenty-six captioned images of iconic aircraft, such as Charles Lindbergh’s Spirit of St. Louis and the Boeing 2707, alongside unique vehicles like the LTV XC-142A, Convair XF4-1, and Gee Bee racer. Notably, it emphasizes Allied aircraft, omitting the Soviet Tupolev Tu-144.  Detailed descriptions accompany each illustration, providing historical context and technical specifications. This side emphasizes the evolution of aviation technology and its impact on both civilian and military aviation.
