Description

Choice Investments in City Real Estate

Separately issued 1884 edition of the beautiful Langley Directory map, part of the most attractive series of color-lithographed maps of the city from the end of the 19th century.

This example includes additional printing to advertise the real estate businesses of McAfee & Baldwin. The verso is filled with images of Type-Writing Machines and Supplies.

The city is broken up between old Ranchos, the Presidio Reservation, and City Wards.

Comparing the map to the 1870s editions surprisingly little has changed. The docks and wharves downtown are the most obvious improvements.

This edition bears the imprint: "Copyright Painter & Co. 1886."

Rarity

The individual editions of the Langley maps are rare; this 1894 edition is recorded by OCLC in only two examples, NYPL and California Historical.
