Description

Land Assessment and Taxation in Sweden

Decorative and highly detailed map of the area around Glasholm, in Kalmar County, in the southeastern part of Sweden, about 30 miles south of the city of Kalmar.

The map is a 1791 copy of a 1707 original, drawn by Samuel Frigilius and held at the time in the Royal General Land Survey Office in Stockholm.  At the bottom left, the map is certified as a correct copy by Jonas Brolin on November 29, 1791.

The map assesses the size of approximately 48 numbered parcels identified on the map, with #49 apparently annulled.  A second group is identified as A through T.

Samuel Christopheri Frigelius (1652 - 1726) was the son of a farmer in Sund. He was appointed surveyor in Kopparberg County in 1687 and in Kalmar county in 1689.

The map title translates as:

Geometrical Map of Glasholmen in Kalmar County, Southern Möre District, and Halltorp Parish, composed by Land Surveyor Samuel Frigelius Anno 1797 -- Copied at the Royal Land Survey Office. Anno 1791."
