Best Edition With a Fine 19th-Century Map of California

The Volkmann Copy

The second and best edition. The first edition, published the previous year, did not include a map.

The map of California, which shows most of Nevada as well, indicates railroad routes and wagon roads.

Of the numerous works upon California, this is one of the best and most complete of that period. Many authorities have been consulted and carefully cited. - Cowan.

An essential book for any serious California collection. This example with a distinguished provenance. Daniel Volkmann was one of the very few bibliophiles to assemble a complete collection of first editions of the titles listed in the Zamorano 80.

Rarity

Nice examples of this book in original wrappers with the map in perfect condition are quite scarce in the market.
