Description

Fine dark impression of Guiseppe Rosaccio's map of America and the Pacific, published in Florence, circa 1594.

The map's fascinating detail in the interior parts of North America, along wth a Northwest Passage.

Nova Spagna (New Spain) extends to the western part of the the St. Lawrence river. Norimbega (New England) is spelled Norinbega. Virginia is named, as are Florida, Mexico, Quivira, Anian and the M. Vermeio (Sea of Cortez). The Sierra Nevada name appears, but off the coast of California.

In the southwest, a massive Nova Guinea and Terra Australe Incognita are named.

A marvelous, naive engraving.
