Nice example of De Solis' rare map of Asia, published in Valladolid.

De Solis bases his map upon the 1570 Ortelius map of Asia.  The work appeared in a very rare Valladolid edition of Botero's Relaciones Universales Del Mundo.

Botero (1540-1617) was an Italian thinker, priest, poet, and diplomat, who was expelled by the Jesuits in 1580.  His Relaciones universales del mondo, originally published 1594 to 1595 in Italian, tells of the "universal church" (i.e., Catholicism) in various parts of the world, including America, the Old World, India, the circum-Mediterranean, Africa, China, the Philippines, Japan, and Southeast Asia, but also England, Scotland, Ireland, and "the realm of Prester John." .

Condition Description: Archivally flattened and minor fold breaks reinforced on verso. One tear at left margin entering image, expertly repaired on verso and several minor losses at fold intersections expertly filled. Left margin extended.
